Across the Alps: The Battle of Trebbia Rules

Matt Fritz offers a set of free miniatures rules called Across the Alps. The rules are for recreating the Battle of Trebbia from 218 BC, when Hannibal crossed the Alps to face the Roman Army at the river Trebbia. The rules are easy to play, being designed for Matt’s students. There also is a link there to paper figures.

Valiant Britons

Valiant Britons is Jim Wallman’s contribution to wargaming ancient british tribes in the pre Roman era. Its designed for 15mm figures, but he says that any scale will do. Like all of Wallman’s rules sets, it’s well done and makes me want to start painting the period immediately.

Pirates of Yendor Sea Battle Rules

The indefatigable Jim Wallman has a new set of miniatures rules called “The Pirates of Yendor.” It’s for fantasy naval warfare, with rules for elf and dwarf galleys, corsairs and such. It also has an interesting pre-planned movement system using cards.

It all makes me want to get out my old Games Workshop Man O War figures.

Hans Und Panzer WWII Rules

Hans Und Panzer is a set of free wargames rules for WWII tank combat. The author writes:

Hans in Panzer is a game of tank combat in World War II. Using small scale soldiers and vehicles, you can recreate an entire battle on a coffee table. The rules accommodate tanks and equipment used by merican, German, British and Russian forces. The average space for a game would be 4” by 8” or so. Using these rules, you can even play on a coffee table. All you need are miniature soldiers, terrain pieces, measuring sticks and six-sided dice.

Army Men: Plastic Conflict Rules

Army Men: Plastic Conflict is a set of free wargames rules for those ubiquitous 54mm plastic army men. Interestingly, it has quite a bit of flavor background for the game.
