RISUS RPG Lite

Risus is a free RPG from S. John Ross. He writes:

Risus is a complete Role Playing Game (RPG) designed to provide an “RPG Lite” for those nights when the brain is too tired for exacting detail. Risus is especially valuable to GMs assembling a quick convention game, or any late-night beer-and-pretzels outing. While it is essentially a Universal Comedy System, it works just as well for serious play (if you insist!). Best of all, a Risus character takes about 20 seconds to create!

CREDIT WHERE IT’S DUE
Inspiration for the nature of this game comes largely from the sadly out-of-print classic, Ghostbusters, from West End Games, sparked against an idea (Clichs) from DC Heroes. The final shape and form of the game was inspired by Over the Edge, from Atlas Games. Other RPGs (most notably GURPS, FUDGE and Tunnels and Trolls), have also provided valuable inspiration …

Painting A Roman Legionary Tutorial

Over at MacPhee’s Miniature Men, there’s a tutorial on painting a Roman Legionary with craft paints. While I’ve found the craft paints to be of varying quality, they DO have the advantage of being very cheap compared to the Games Workshop, Vallejo and other “miniatures specific” paints.

Stout Hearts Medieval Rules

Stout Hearts is a set of free wargames rules inspired by the classic Hal Foster Prince Valiant comics.

Deadly Harmony Fighting Game

Deadly Harmony is a free print-and-play game that:

attempts to capture the flavor of old Kung-Fu movies of the 70s and classic arcade fighting games of the early 90s. Over the course of the next few minutes you will take on the role of a fighter in a one-on-one bout of martial arts. This game is about reading your opponent, knowing what they are going to do next, and being a step ahead. So prepare yourself, lace up your gloves, and get ready to FIGHT!

Generic Outlandishly Big Spacefleets (GOBS) Rules

Generic Outlandishly Big Spacefleets (GOBS) is a set of free and easy-to-play rules for huge fleets of starships. The author writes:

G.O.B.S.! is fast-paced and easy to learn. Record-keeping is minimal; in most cases, ships blow up rather than retaining damage. (A two ship game of G.O.B.S.! would be over pretty quickly. This game is about fleets, Sparky! We want explosions all over the place!) The length of playing time is dependent on the size of your fleets, but an hour or two should do it for most cases. Wanna play longer? Build bigger fleets!
