GASLIGHT House Rules

GASLIGHT is probably the most played set of Victorian Science Fiction miniatures rules available today. The Rivets and Steam site has a page of houserules for the set.

Forgotten Futures Role Playing Game

Forgotten Futures is Marcus Rowland’s role playing game of scientific romance. It’s been around for quite a while, having been available on the web for years, before being published by the Heliograph. That company now has discontinued the product, and it again is available on the web. I have a printed copy, and have really enjoyed it. There are plenty of ideas there for miniature wargamers, especially if you like games with a role playing flavor.

Le Grande Cirque Rules

Walt O’Hara, tireless advocate of gaming in a gentler time, offers his Le Grande Cirque rules. Walt writes:

The Grand Circuit Races (aka ‘Le Grand Cirque’ by the French and everyone else) is a game of “Conveyance racing” in a weird but whimsical Victorian age loaded with technological possibilities. Players assume the role of racers, competing on behalf of their nation or political faction.

Master of the World Campaign

Basement Generals has a general miniature wargaming site with an extensive victorian science fiction section featuring battle reports of their Master of the World Campaign, plus photos of their figures and models.

Imperial Mars Miniatures Rules

Imperial Mars is a set of free miniatures rules for games set in a Mars that has been colonized by the imperial powers. The author writes:

The level we have set for these actions is fairly small scale, the idea being that the transportation of large armies to the red planet is far too expensive to consider. A company of earthling infantry works out to about 24 figures, which gives a good level of playability. The Martians we use, and thus those used in the body of the rules, are either humanoid or reptilian, this is due to the selection of figures available. For simplicity I will refer to them as regular and large Martians (with or without fries!).

Whilst we cannot claim that these rules are “generic”, how could they be? We like to think that the system is so simple and open ended that any “new” races or weapons can be quickly slotted in. This seems to be so simple that most of our games involve some rule modification for the scenario. Anyway I hope that you enjoy them and at least find something in them of use.

These rules were developed initially for 10mm figures though I can see no reason why they cannot be used for other scales.
