It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived. – George S. Patton

Under Reconstruction

The software I have used for a decade has finally come to the end of its life. I had hoped to keep it up for another week, so people could download anything they wanted from the forums and so that I could tweak the replacement software. I also had hoped to develop a better looking site design.

Sadly, it was not to be. Over the past several weeks, I had watched ever-increasing error messages, and the server had to be reset a number of times. The old software completely collapsed Sunday (April 12), and has not come back up.

The good news is that I saw this coming and spent my vacation week going through every one of the 7,000 links on the old site, checking for broken links. As of this writing, every link is now updated.

In the upcoming week, I plan to restore more functionality, including relaunching the forums. Unfortunately, there was no way to export the old forum posts — the software and database formats were just too old. I apologize and hope that you’ll rejoin the new forums when they are launched.

In the meantime, I plan to continue the post-a-day format, with new things for gamers every day.

Thanks for your understanding.

Skirmish Tactics Apocalypse

Skirmish Tactics Apocalypse is post apocalypse skirmish and campaign game. The authors write:

Skirmish Tactics Apocalypse (STA) is a two player skirmish-level tabletop game set in a post-apocalyptic near future.

There are two ways to play STA: skirmishes and conquests. Skirmishes are standalone games played for a single victory, with no lasting repercussions. Conquests are a series of skirmishes. In conquests, players begin with a squad of recruit characters.

STA is a scenario driven game. Each scenario typically has multiple objectives, and combat between factions is usually a secondary or tertiary objective. Players win skirmishes in STA by gaining victory points through accomplishing these objectives.

The game board for STA – called the gamescape – is formed from modular tiles which are themed to represent different environments. Players build the game board with nine modular tiles, each of which are divided into a 7×7 grid. Characters use the grids for movement.

Each character in STA is represented by a token and has a corresponding character card. During campaign play, characters improve their attributes and develop new abilities as they progress from Recruit to Veteran and then Elite status.

Game Markers From Beads and Bolts

Here’s a clever use of beads and bolts to make game markers. The one shown only uses red markers for the Bolt Action game, but I think you could have multiple colors for different statuses.
