World War Two
World War 2 German Aircraft Projects
Luft ’46 is a site that offers a wealth of information on aircraft projects that the Germans had in line is World War II had lasted a year or more longer. Fascinating stuff. I’d like to see some of these show up on a wargames table.
Stonk – Brigade Level WWII Rules
Stonk is a set of brigade level World War II rules, designed for 1/300 scale miniatures. The authors write:
This is a set of wargame rules intended to simulate actions between about one brigade equivalent a side, supported by divisional or even corps troops where they would have been available.
The basic philosophy of the rules can be summarised:
a. That morale and leadership are decisive factors in these battles
b. Logistics is a critical factor, even in the battalion battle and is too often overlooked,
c. Communications, command and control are very influential and central to conducting a battle
d. Planning – especially artillery fire planning is a vital part of the battle, and again is too often overlooked.
e. That technology is generally over-rated and minor differences between, say, tank types have been given too great a prominence in wargame rules. I have attempted to redress this.
Paper Tigers World War II Skirmish Rules
Paper Tiger Armaments offers Paper Tigers, a set of World War II skirmish rules. The author writes:
Paper Tigers is designed as an introduction to miniatures war gaming for the beginner. It is intended to be played with paper miniatures printed in 1/72 or 1/76 scale. To that end, the rules are kept deliberately easy to learn. This does not mean the rules are unsophisticated. Players will find that good tactics are generally rewarded. Paper Tigers uses a standard deck of playing cards to generate an interesting and sometimes surprisingly tense turn sequence. Higher value cards allow you to act first, but they are more difficult to successfully use. Lower value cards are easier to use, but with them, you are more likely to act after your opponent.
Most players! initial games are likely to be solo efforts. This does not pose a problem as Paper Tigers is purposely designed to work well in singleplayer games. The card-driven turn sequence combined with other mechanisms that limit player control make Paper Tigers highly suitable for solo play yet still provide an enjoyable multi-player game
Pacific Storm Island Hopping Game
Pacific Storm is a one-page hex and counter board wargame that simulates the island hopping campaigns of WWII.
